Financial mistake?
Welcome to my home lab! I bought my first server back in 2017, and things just snowballed from there. This space is dedicated to experimenting with various technologies, honing my skills, and working on personal projects. Here, I explore areas like virtualization, networking, automation, and security, among others. I do a lot of my heavy lifting on here.
Hardware Components
- Server (GPU): Dell PowerEdge C4130
- Server (CPU): Dell PowerEdge C6100
- Firewall: Fortigate 60D
- Router: Standard ISP provided, for now
- Switch (Ethernet): 3Com 2948 SFP+ GbE
- Switch (Infiniband): Mellanox IS5030 36-Port QSFP
- Storage: Gaming PC converted to a storage server
Software and Services
- Virtualization: Proxmox VE, Ubuntu MaaS
- Containers: Docker, Kubernetes (K8s)
- Operating Systems: Ubuntu Server, TrueNAS
- Monitoring: Grafana, Prometheus
- Security: Fortigate Hardware Firewall
Projects and Experiments
Here are some of the projects and experiments I am currently working on in my home lab:
- Network Monitoring: Re-implement Grafana and Prometheus to monitor network traffic and server health.
- Security Testing: Using Kali Linux to check for security gaps and holes in the lab.
- Machine Learning: Playing around with machine learning models to learn more about ML.
- Big Data: Building a Big Data stack to support some of my other active projects.
Future Plans
As technology evolves, so does my home lab. In the future, I plan to explore:
- Adding ARM cores, I could use some low power compute - passively cooled.
- Setup a hybrid cloud using AWS, to add redundancy to my infrastructure.
- Redeploy Ubuntu MAAS and play around with it some more.
- Configure a low power portion of the lab for 24/7 access, with the rest being on-demand.
- Setup a gaming PC and serve it over Parsec, for games and whatnot.
